Welcome to Sadaf Enterprises

Sadaf Enterprises started with a humble beginning in 1986 as a partnership concern to become one of the most environment friendly and safe ship recycling facility in Pakistan. Since the inception, the company is involved in importing ships for breaking purposes at Gadani Ship Breaking Yard. After the dismantling process the scrap is sold nationally to the different parts of the country and some parts are also exported for reuse in other active ships.

Ship breaking or ship demolition involves the dismantling of ships of various types for scrap recycling, with the hulls being discarded in ship graveyards. Most ships have a lifespan of a few decades before there is so much wear & tear that refitting and repair becomes uneconomical. Ship breaking allows materials from the ship, especially steel, to be reused. A Global meltdown is usually referred to as a boom time for the ship breaking industry. While most industries are resorting to cost cutting measures to tide over the bad times, the ship-breaking industry perceives the economic meltdown as a blessing in disguise. The recession in the economy, with reduced world trade and thus a fall in international freight rates, automatically enhances the availability of ships to be scrapped.

Today, Sadaf Enterprises is one of the largest ship recyclers in the world with an installed processing capacity of 150,000 tons per year. We also have the honor of having recycled some of the largest Ships ever made. Recently we recycled Motor tanker VLCC MISTRAL 48,000 metric tons, the largest ship to come for demolition in the past 3 decades, 346meters the length of 4 football fields.

Sadaf Enterprises also has a vertically integrated operational facility located in SITE Area Karachi which uses the raw material being extracted from ship dismantling for the production of high class steel bars and reinforcement bar under the name of Mustafa Steel Re-Rolling Mills. The material is further used in construction of buildings and houses.

Along with INDIA, BANGLADESH and CHINA, Pakistan also undertakes this procedure of ship recycling. The Gadani ship breaking yard, Balochistan, is the centre for the breaking up of derelict ocean-going ships for scrap in Pakistan and is approximately some 50 kilometers northwest of Karachi.

Operation Sadaf

Ships to be broken up are run aground on the beach under her own power (or by a tug), and then gradually dismantled. As the weight of the ship lessens, it is dragged further onto the beach until completely scrapped. Scrapping ships is an intensive job and requires a lot of labor and Earth-Moving Machines.
